Response:

Sounds like the forum politics have hotted up (sounds like a topic for the community forum) (and now it is). I must say that Lee has a point, he has started threads in other forums here, for the purpose of getting posters to discuss themselves and threads for the more critically minded. What has happened, these poster friendly threads have suffered from threadrot. Dissovling into tit for tat chatting, best serevd on a totally new thread. Some may count this as a petty observation, but consider what new posters will think. Why can't posters just start chatty threads elsewhere, rather than dissolving a potentially useful topic into personal banter. I suggest that poster have a think and get back with ideas and solutions.

I agree completely Shaman. This is a movie forum where debates, reviews etc should be the main focus.

What to do...

Hmm, that reminds me of how Tappy and me used to spam up the threads....

if i caused offence...then tough...

we all are here to voice opinions and while i contribute i do not take it to seriously

as i understand it..lee214 is a film student and his insight into a wide range of film genre is staggering but it does seem sometimes like he is simply regurgitating what he learned that day

never the less...his contributions are both relevant and (sometimes)" "riveting"

i think that i also contribute both relevant and arguably witty posts just to lighten the mood but i have been one of the few people to read and respond to some of lees more lengthy posts

we have had a good banter going for a long time on this forum and i think he wants it to continue as much as me

take it easy

i appreciate his attempt at educating the majority of us who are less knowlegable than he is...

Chill out anomaly. Nobody is pointing fingers at you. No need for an immature attitude. (REF: your post in the movie certification topic).

Da Shaman has a very valid point. I come here to read debates on movies. All i see at the moment is idle chit-chat which is best suited to AIM...
the anomaly
he started it

hahaha
the anomaly
seriously though...

my censorship thread is an example of what happens nowadays in this forum

my posts are nowhere near the depth that lee posts but even my reasonably serious post gets few replies...

i cant be held responsible for what other people reply to or dont
Rhemy
when i got hooked on this Movie Forum, it was because i got involved in movies, when i started working on one (Cutthroat Island). I only worked on the production phase of the movies which also included the casting.
When on set, i would learn by gathering information through eavesdropping, watching and replies from the few people who bothered answering my questions.
That is why my first posts were on Troy.

I cannot and/or am not capable of having the same views and responses of some of you and likewise cannot expect others to carry on with me. All that one can do is his best to share by contributing his/her POVs.

besides, and mean no offence, some posts by Sha Man and Lee are long and I only read a few of them and hardly replied. Its takes patience to read all that and even more to understand, and as you know no-one replies because their isnt much comprehenshion.

I am not saying that u dont explain adequatly; far from it.

I read the pre-hollywood topic regarding france and film noir but was unable to develop more on it

Personally i can say that i will do my best and take the patience to understand.

Thanks for repllies to my rushed and mistyped response to the activity in the shoutbox.
Yes, Anomoly, no one is pointiing fingers at anyone. The key message I had regarding the dialogue that was developing between the two of you was that Lee has provided useful non-film theorist threads that have turned into forum chat. I suggested that this has maybe undermined their original intention and that other chatty threads be started. I reall like the idea of a Who's Who (and will contribute once I know more), and one that explains our Avatars and signatures (fiction suits, is my fave expression for this). My observation was that new posters could make great use of this, but they need to be focused and in my mind (sticks neck out) not misused.
It is true that Lee and myself post text and theory heavy posts, but these are done not to alienate and placed in the Art forum, where they are best suited. Thank you for confirming my suspiscion that Lee is currently studying film, I'm a film graduate myself and I found this forum through research into the Hollywood studio system. The search brought up Lees post on this subject and provided some material that I was able to lecture with.
Rhemy, I have checked out your home site and totally appreciate where you are coming from, with the industry/creative prerspective, I too have worked in the industry and am still very much involved in the making of film. I would love to see threads inwhich you and others discuss experiences and opinions of this as much as I anorak/nerd theory and criticism.

(I feel I've gone off on a tangent, but that the dyslexia for you)

Can we (and by no means think that I am not aware of any associated pressumption) form some sort of charter or agreement or collective approach, so that we can all get out of this site, what we all seek? I feel this is a simple solution, but will mean that we have to consider and appreciate why we are all here.

the way i see it Anything goes and community is for the people that want to chat about NON MOVIE RELATED stuff so anything in here is going to be chat-like........it seems that for the most part the movie forums stay more topic orientated(there are lapses i admit)

if we can't have fun and post what we want to post what's the point?

I agree that the majority of teh forum is on topic. I must say that at no point am I making a statement that no chatting should take place, on the contrary, can people please start chatty threads for this purpose.
If you look at the current chatty threads (re: Who's Who and Avatar and Signature discussion) these are now effectively off topic and no longer serving the community as I feel they could be. I think that they would have been really useful for new posters, but now contain chat about the Superbowl etc. (where's the superbowl chat thread? start one)

More can also been made of the shoutbox for chatting.

anyone see paul hunter win the snooker masters last night?

while i don't disagree, i think some moderator envolvement should be had here. a mod needs to take a few seconds and split the off topic forums into their own thread. i do it all the time on the forums i moderate, it keeps all the related chat stuff together in it's own thread and keeps the on topic stuff clean and well on topic. how are people supposed to know what is out of hand and what isn't without moderators stepping in?

also this is a pretty tight knit message board, almost as tight knit as our local car club so the chatting is going to be here more so than on a larger site. we know one another(for the most part) and that offers more chances to chat about personal stuff. that and we're mostly friggin nuts

page 3 when the pic from 2Fast2Furious was posted and i started talking about the Skyline.......everything after that is pretty much off topic

but to it's defense that thread had "Chat" written all over it. it's a thread about your views on other members. it's going to get personal

also i'm not trying to flame or be rude but i'm the administrator to a site with 300 members and about 3 times the traffic of this site and there are always people that disagree with stuff and want things to stay professional or be a little more lax on rules and suck. it always comes down to majority, if most of the people don't have a problem with the way the site is going then it's hard to justify a change. even if it might be the best thing

and speaking for yourself is ok as long as you don't talk back

Question: what is it people want from this site?

this site: movie news and a place to chat/learn more about the movie making process

this forum(cavola.comMUNITY) to chat.....same with Anything goes. i try to keep anything outside of these two forums on topic......though sometimes i fail i know
Rhemy
i have already answered to that.

i dont know why on topics i see 'insane' 'lunacy' 'crazy' words.and i dont know why people behave like that
besides I try to keep most to myself........mela I know who u lot r ?

There could well be a director amongst a member on this forum who seeks to gather information and profit out of one's post.

for the movie related forums i agree, have some moderators that make sure it stays on topic, or to split threads that get off topic. but here in ANYTHING GOES and CAVOLA.COMUNITY leave them be, this is non movie related stuff, i don't see the problem with chatting. course it's not my site so i don't have the say

I'm not a film student actually...but you're right -- a lot of my posts are meant to provide information but they are not gospel - you may not agree with some of the cited points...or even the entire post so they provide a basis for discussion and argument.

Terence Stamp plays a part in 'My Boss's Daughter' as Tara Reid's father.

His attitude is exactly like Monty Burns IMO . Hilarious !!

ummm lets just say I took a political spectrum quiz thing. And it placed me smack dab next to the pope. So for any issues just ask yourself, WWTPD? (What Would The Pope Do?) and you got my agreement
