Commercials for American History X have been airing on TNT. I haven't seen it. I think it's in that violent category that I stay away from. But Edward Norton's in it looking just like TexasGuy.
So, should I rent it?

It's a good movie... I've only seen it once.... it's very brutal but a good storyline

Does someone get the crap kicked out of him in a gutter or something?
It's the Edward Norton thing. Norton's drawing me to this movie. I wonder if TexasGuy's seen it before. Hmmm. I think it was in theaters before we were dating, maybe. If his IM is on I could ask him.

yes there is a very brutal "curb stomping" scene where the guys forced to bit the edge of the curb and then the dude smashes his head down onto it. Are they showing it on TNT?!? cause they have a lot to censor and cut out if they are.
I recommend seeing it at least once... I wouldn't mind seeing it again myself... its been a good many years since I saw it

I'm sure the version on TNT will be minus that scene. It will probably be quite cleaned up for TV. It's on all this weekend. I think I'd rather just see it see it than watch what's on TV. Besides, I have about a thousand hours of HD programming I have to free up on the DVR to be ready for next week's TV.

agreed.... that scene is just one of many violent parts of the film.... I can't imagine the TNT version will be anything like watching the real deal

Great film, watch it TexasGal, then watch Romper Stomper, then watch Made In Britain.

Makes me think of that South Park episode. The two probably have nothing to do with each other.
In either of those films, will I root for the skinheads or the other side?

I have to agree. An excellent film and one of Ed Norton's best performances (of which there have been many!). Tough to watch at times and very sad, but highly recommended. Needs to be seen

a brilliant film...strangely enough one of my mother's favourites even though she thought she would hate it
yes the kerb stomp scene is brutal but more so because it leaves it to your imagination because you dont actually see anything.
the rape scene in the shower is probably the worst part
ultimately its a story of redemption that comes to late

We finally watched it tonight and WOW! What a movie. Norton definitely deserved the Oscar nomination. The movie was intense, but not as violent as I expected. The curb incident wasn't as bad as I was anticipating either. It was pretty much what Tony Soprano did to Coco, so I'd already seen it. I think I turned my head then too. I knew the ending was coming but I didn't want it. It was a really good movie.
I couldn't help but wonder why I am shocked whenever I see Edward Norton play a bad guy. I've seen him in more movies as a bad guy than not. It most be because of the resemblance to TexasGuy and TexasGuy's such a sweetie.
