Ok, before Texasgal comes in and goes all "meh meh meh meh meh?" (translated as "Doesn't this thread already exist?", yeah, I went there) I did a search and couldn't find one.

So which films have you had the misfortune of sitting through?

I can only remember one film that I have ever walked out of and that was the absolute pile of dog crap that was Gummo.

This film made Edward D. Wood Jr look like Orson Welles. I have never been subjected to such a horrible little film in all my life. I made it to around the 45 minute mark before leaving, and that was a struggle.

Now, I'm not usually one to judge a film until i've seen it all, as a lot can happen in a movie, but this was atrocious and I have absolutley no desire to ever see how it concludes. Ok, to put into perspective how bad this film was, I sat through The Avengers.

Yep, Gummo is awful.

So which films have you thoroughly hated to the point of dispair? Ever walked out? Ever complained and got your money back? Name and shame people, name and shame.
There Is No Spoon
I made it through 15 minutes of Gigli with Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez... I was only there to see a trailer before hand... I don't remember what the trailer was but then I stayed for a few mins to see how the movie was.... made it 15 mins.

I only ever felt the urge to switch off or walk out of one film, Dude, Where's My Car and I still watched all the way through. No matter how bad a movie gets, I can never bring myself to turn it off if I've never seen it, I'd be wondering what happened next forever, hell, I even sat through Hudson Hawk.

the anomaly
for me there have been alot of great films that i've started watching for the 1st time but had to stop them just cause my brain wasn't in gear for them...bubba ho-tep, feed, house of flying daggers to name a few...

the only film i've switched off that i bought because it was supposed to be great but turned out to be a cleavland steamer....traffic....i hated it
makeitstop
Agreed on traffic, but I didn't walk out, I just focused on doing some work while I had the time and a nice cozy theater.

The illusionist I didn't really want to stop halfway through last night, the disc just doesn't work and nothing has worked to fix it, and it's really pissing me off.

I turned off clerks halfway through because it only had one mildly amusing scene.
TexasGal
Naked Gun -- Left the theater.
LA Story -- Wished I had
Eyes Wide Shut -- Couldn't finish the Pay Per View.
Ali -- Same story
Magnolia -- Chris enjoyed it, I couldn't stand it.
Vanilla Sky -- Went to friends' house to watch and left midway through.

I'm sure there are laws against that sort of thing.

Doesn't really count now does it. There have been plenty of films that I have come home to find Mrs SNE watching, doesn't make it a bad film... actually, if Mrs SNE chose it, then it is probably bad (some Coyote Ugly rubbish)... of course, if she asks, I never said that.
Claireofthemoon
The Animal Room a Clockwork range wannabe, watched abour 45 minutes waiting for a plot. There was none. I finally stopped tortuing myself and gave up.

The Piano Teacher A French movie about guess what??? A piano teacher. Boring and annoying. Could only stand an hour. I really tried to watch it all, but I couln't. It was so slow and boring.
She-Ra
There is two films I've walked out of the flicks on.

First one was Eyes Wide Shut, and then later that evening I had to listen to my mates boyfriend trying to justify what a exceptional piece of film making it was when all I saw was lots of naked skinny ladies.

Second one was Lord Of Rings-Return Of The King. After seeing the ring being thrown into the fire I could not see why there would be another half an hour of film to go so I left to have a cig.

I like Coyote Ugly. I also enjoyed the search for the next Coyote Ugly girl that was on CMT.

Oh yes! Lord of the Rings. I tried to watch Lord of the Rings a few times. I gave it my undivided attention. I couldn't get into it and turned it off. I've been abused for not liking LOTR. But I can take it. It get abused for the things I do like too. blink.gif

Yeah, but you're a woman, so you're supposed to like it, after all isn't it filed under 'Chick Flick'?

Films by women for women, I'm a guy (tis true, I don't lie about things like this) so I'm hardley the films 'target' audience.

I have been accused by women over the years (including Mrs SNE, though bless her, she does love her action movies) of only liking guys movies. No shit. I'm not usually in the habit of watching chick flicks when I'm home alone.

I'm not against chick flicks, they serve their purpose, but hey, I DON'T LIKE 'EM, end of. Of course, there are a couple of exceptions, Love & Sex, The Girl Next Door (but thats more of a comedy, so thus doesn't count), ... ok, now I'm struggling, but its not as if us guys don't have the chick flick equivalent. Take Sideways, this is a guys version of a chick flick. A very touching and engaging story well acted that really hits home about friendships between us fellas, top stuff, but oh no, we just like bombs and guns and fighting and stuff because we don't like chick flicks which are full of nonsense and make little sense all feeding on a womans paranoia and yearning for acceptence.

Thats one of the primary reasons I can't stand chick flicks, the majority of them seem to say that you (as a woman) aren't right and will never be happy until you have a man, what a crock.

I feel I must defend Return of the King as its one of my favorite films... as a matter of fact... I'm watching it at work right now. You have to look at it as a book to movie. If you try and look at it just as a movie... the director was an idiot and made the ending way too long. Do I agree the ending is very long... yes I do. As a reader of the books I find I must tell you theres another half hour of storyline in the books that wasn't put in the movies... The ending could have been even longer.

Peter Jackson most of the time did a very good job of following the books, I do not fault him for the fact that Tolkien wrote a very long ending... the truth is theres so much to the books it cant all be ended in a matter of a few pages or few minutes. There are so many parts to the story that needed to come to a close... the ring being destroyed was not the final picket in the fence.

My morale of this is although I agree the ending is way too long for a movie, try to remember its based on a book... not a unique screenplay... Peter Jackson really had no choice and for everyone decided to cut out a whole chunk of the story that takes place after the ring is destroyed.

Ok, fair enough spoony, but I hated the books as well, so quite how I thought I may enjoy the film I'll never know.

To be honest though, and this is credit to all those involved in making them, I saw them because there was a need, as a film fan, to see them. They will go down in the annals of history within movies as landmark pictures, love them or hate them they have there place reserved.

I wouldn't go as far as to say 'changed' but they are certainly 'important' films. Star Wars is a different kettle of fish, that did change the way in which films were marketed, but LOTR was always going to live in Star Wars shadow to an extent, same with The Matrix trilogy (and I defend the sequels on a regular basis, they are nowhere near as bad as what some make them out to be, but that argument is for another place and time).
There Is No Spoon
I also am an avid fan of the matrix trilogy
Dr. Zaius
Once Upon A Crime
Left the theater in disgust a quarter of the way through. This is simply a horrible film. Something about it just disgusts me.

A Fistful of Dynamite/Duck You Sucker
Rented this with some friends, and could only stand to watch about a half hour. A very strange plot and slow pacing made this particularly difficult to watch for as long as I did.

ZardoZ
Needless to say I was a bit surprised and horrified to see Sean Connery running around in red speedos, knee-high leather boots. After watching in abject terror for what felt like 3 hours I stopped watching the video 20 or so minutes into it.

There Is No Spoon
remind me never to watch ZardoZ

Hey, Spoon. Don't ever watch ZardoZ.

I've never actually been compelled to leave a theater while watching a movie. But, I did watch about 5-10 minutes of "Dude, Where's My Car" on cable, and I want my 15 points of IQ back!
