Is there a big plan to the Universe? Is it possible to predict the future?
A few years ago I had a woman tell me that I was going to die. I said 'No shit', she wasn't best pleased. But enough about ladies with cleavage and their big boyfriends, does anyone believe in this sort of thing? Or do you think its a whole load of mumbo jumbo (a phrase not used enough in the modern world)?
Surely, someone who has faith in God cannot believe in Tarrot, but, well, there is a woman I work with who is really into this stuff. Often called crazy, dissmissed as a looney, I think shes kinda cool, in a kooky kinda way. Having said this, she did freak me out a little with her rabbits foot. She wouldn't answer me when I asked 'Does it vibrate?'. Don't know why, it was a serious question.
But come on, anyone, please, answer me!

I enjoy reading my horoscope in the morning but other than that, I think is just a bunch of Hocuspokus.

Well, tarot cards and horoscopes are all a load of crap, and if a psychic claims to be able to see the future with any degree of clarity than they should have no need of payment for their services, because they should have already made a fortune gambling.
That said, I have had more than a few experiences with the (apparently) supernatural which are difficult to explain. I'm actually a bit psychic myself. I don't actually claim to have some amazing powers, and in fact, do not ever bother to explain it. I just get a lot of hunches, premonitions, dreams and even the occasional vision which turn out to be disturbingly accurate. Whether it is messages from god, a mysterious connection to the cosmos, some weird mutant power, information being processed subconsciously, an illusion caused by our tendencies to remember the hits and forget the misses, or just a long series of extremely unlikely coincidences, I don't claim to know. I just accept it for whatever it is and move on.
I have been getting a little better at it (particularly when it comes to reading people) but I still can't pick the lotto numbers.
A quick side note, if you ever do find someone who can legitimately see the future, their ability may be useful, but it is also extremely limited. Because the psychic would react to whatever they see, and in doing so would cause countless changes to the timeline, the future they see would actually change, preventing them from seeing it in the first place. It leads to a paradox that must either reach some point of stability or would most likely lead to an indecipherable blur of meaningless crap which would ultimately have no effect other than to give th psychic a splitting headache. bottom line, even if they could control this ability (another problematic issue) they would be completely unable to see the things that would be affected by their knowledge of the event. So, if they tell you how you are going to die, and it isn't something along the lines an apocalyptic event or an aneurysm in approximately 37 seconds, they are just messing with you, because if it was something which could be affected (intentionally or otherwise) by your prior knowledge, that psychic couldn't see it. And if word got out that this persons was legit, and people started listening, their influence increase and their abilities would actually diminish.
Oh, and one final thought. I will not acknowledge that anyone is a psychic until they have been blacklisted by Vegas.
Wait, make that 2 final thoughts (my mind is wandering today) the ones who claim to see the future are one thing, but the ones that really annoy me are the ones who claim to talk to the dead. They're the ones who should be burnt at the stake. Sleazy bastards....
