What are your favourite manga films? w00t.gif

Do you mean ANIME?

Anime = Cartoon.

Manga = Comic.

As for movies, well, Akira is an instant classic of the genre. Considering it was made in 1988 it still holds up very well compared to anything coming out today. Granted, the Anime chopped a hell of a lot out of the source manga, but if they had attempted to recreate a faithful adaptation then it would have had a running time of about 3 days, so although there are diminished roles for say Joker, it all works pretty well considering.

Ghost In The Shell is one of my obsessions. Not only are the two movies spot on but it has also spun two TV seasons in Stand Alone Complex. The whole universe in Ghost In The Shell is immense, you are really given the impression that there is something around every single corner, each and everyone with its own story to tell.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is very much a case of style over substance, but hot damn, when the style is THAT good, who gives a damn about substance.

Mayao Miyazaki and his cohorts at Studio Ghibli have created a back catalogue that puts the House Of Mouse to shame. Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service, Howl's Moving Castle... I could go on. Each and every one of the Studio Ghibli thus far is well worth a watch and if you have any interest in the Anime genre then these are an absolute must.

So many films, so little time.

Scrag, you shock me! ohmy.gif I feel like I just discovered my brother was serial killer, or something.

Doesn't take a genius to work out that I tend to like anime. tongue.gif My favourites are:

"Love Hina" at the very top of the pile, followed b "Tenchi Muyo" (although the third Tenchi film was a bit too sober for my taste and didn't have the humour and fun the rest had).

Totally agree with "Ghost in the Shell", and especially Evangelion - gives me goosebumps every time, especally "End of Evangelion".

I usually tend to go for action-comedies like Slayers, Excel Saga, Nuku-Nuku, etc. And though I haven't seen the series, the movie "Cowboy Bebop" was amazing.

I really liked ghost in the shell too. However, i found that the weird music video style centre part where it shows different aspects of the city and world, although adding depth to the world, seemed to slow the plot down a bit too much.

I absolutely love Akira, the animation still looks great even 20 years on. I have the two disc dvd version of the film now, which has a remastered version and the original version. The only problem is they have rerecorded the audio for the remastered version and the voices don't seem to fit the characters as well. I prefer watcfhing the slightly less beautiful, but more powerful orinal version.

I also like Ninja scroll. The film has a good story, excellent bad guys for our hero to dispatch ( i especially like the guy who can turn into stone) and great action scenes. It does go close in some parts of the film to rape scenes, but these are stopped just before they get horrible which is good. The first time i watched it i thought, ut-oh its getting a bit sick, but it soon gets on with the action.

Well, there some of my thoughts...

Wow, tough ask, there are so many great films, hard to put down only three. So, I'm gonna put 4!

Ghost In The Shell: A fantastic hi-tech espionage, a moral story, a cop story, political thriller and action film all wrapped up in amazing animation, voice acting, direction and a terrific style. Far superior to many live action films in the same vein.

Appleseed: Apart from being an impressive experiment in 3D anime, this is also a very deep story. It is close to the style and espionage presented in GITS, but still unique. It has excitement and suspense and one of the rare anime that has great attention to detail in the dubbing.

Patlabor 1/2:
Terrific political thriller/action/comedy/mystery/cop films. The master Oshii is at work and he does this stuff so well!

The Wings Of Honeamease (spelling?): aka Royal Space Force, its a heavy drama sci-fi set in an alternate world and is exceptionally well made. The characters are varied, the acting spot on and the music, by Ryuchi Sakamoto (Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence), is moving and vulnerable. I'm usually a political/espionage/tech fan, but this won me over completely.

...Not forgetting Yukikaze, or Transformers the Movie, or Blood The Last Vampire, or Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust or....

I take it you mean the 2004 remake rather than the godawful original with its animation thats looks like it has been done by a five year old.

Why not?

I read every thread that's posted on this forum, even if I know I'll have no interest in the subject, I think it's only courteous to do so.

I'm also entitled to my opinion PREDATOR, and I'm free to post it.

I saw an anime film years and years ago, i was wondering whether anyone would recognise it and tell me what it is.

It is about a bloke who gets some sort of beam of light reflected onto his neck whilst he is sitting in his arm chair. Over time, it grows into a lump that gives him special powers and he ends up killing a load of people. Sorry for the very vague description but i saw it years ago!

Anyone recognise it?

Cheers cool.gif
