Personally, Miracle is now my favorite sports movie. It was amazing! Hockey is a very tough sport to shoot on film because of how fast it is. I thought miracle was inspiring and exciting. Any thoughts on any of your favorite sports movies?
SEENOEVIL
Miracle is ok, it has enough of a feel good factor to please most, plus it has Kurt Russell, which is always a bonus. I still say Slap Shot is the best Hockey film of all time.

As for other sports, Friday Night Lights was well worth a watch, but I'm not sure about how many repeat viewings it would get here at SNE towers. For The Love Of The Game was ok, you know, for a Kevin Costner movie, but credit where credit is due, it was directed by Sam Raimi, so it gets a pass on this occassion. He Got Game is quite good, one of Spike Lee's better efforts (Do The Right Thing is still my fave Lee movie), more about the people rather than the game of basketball, but Denzil Washington puts in a solid performance, plus it has Milla Jovovich ( wub.gif ), top soundtrack to boot.

If we can include fictional sports then a shout out has to go to the criminally overlooked Rollerball. No, not the remake with Dean Cain, the original with James Caan. Brilliant, just brilliant. Now, thats a sport I'd watch.

Friday Night Lights is definitely a must see. Varsity Blues is an ok one. Another good one is Invincible. I wasn't sure if I would like it, but it turned out pretty good. One that I highly recommend is Gridiron Gang.
scrag
Cool Runnings
Prefontaine
Chariots Of Fire
The Sandlot
When Saturday Comes (it glorifies a Sheffield team, but I like it anyways)
Rocky (all the sequels were poor and over the top IMO, but Rocky was a real triumph)
Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story
BASEketball

There's more, but I can't think off the top of my head.
The Mighty Celestial
5. Fields Of Dreams - Speaking as a guy, we all know why this movie makes such a connection with the male species. We all wish we could play ball with our dad back during his prime.

4. Bull Durham - Speaking as a guy, we all know why this movie makes such a connection with the male species. We all wish we could ball with Susan Sarandon back during her prime.

3. Hoop Dreams - The ups & downs of the real lives of two promising high school basketball players.

2. A League Of Their Pwn - It's ironic that, a game mostly associated with male players, a film that focuses on the women's first professional entry into the sport, would be the one that, for me, truly captures the feeling which best reflects of why this sport is truly an American pasttime. That the purpose of a game is, no matter how the political world events may be turbulently transpiring, we all can just escape for a little while, catch a ballgame & hopefully return into the real world with our spirits a little higher & our perspectives a little bit clearer. Because, as we all know by now, there is no crying in baseball.
