Sweetness
How many here are Tim Burton fans. I think he is an amazing director. He has a gift like no other in my opinion. In Nightmare Before Christmas he turned a ghoulish movie into something very very entertaining for both adults and children.

When my granddaughter first watched it she was afraid in some of the scenes and I helped her lose that fear by joking with her and making fun of the scene. Well from that point on she was hooked and everytime I babysat her she would watch it over and over and over again until she knew all the words verbatim. Also when the fright scenes came on she would just sit and laugh at how silly it was.

So Tim thank you for helping me to show my granddaughter how to overcome her fears.

Tim did NOT direct Nightmare Before Christmass

Henry Selick directed nightmare before christmass

Tim wrote the story and Michael McDowell adapted it for the movie

I like some of his movies, others I don't.

Okay, Okay, I made a mistake. I always thought that he directed it as well. I didn't stay to watch the credits.

However, I still like the stories he tells and the movies that are made from them and I think he probably has a hand in doing some of the direction but since he is not THE director I guess I can't say much more about it.
PREDATOR
I don't know if I'd call myself a 'devoted fan' but I think he has made some amazing stuff. I really like BATMAN - to this day it is one of the best superhero films ever made and holds up today as well as it ever did (The decision to cast Keaton & Nicholson was gold). Although it was slightly more eccentric, BATMAN RETURNS was also great, not to the level of the first, but still a great ride (who can say no to the best Catwoman EVER?).
Mars Attacks was kind of an ensemble slapstick sci-fi comedy and you don't get many ensemble comedies these days with big stars. The latest one is Rat Race. This was different for Burton in contrast to previous films, but its still a love or hate film - either love it or hate it, there is no between! laugh.gif
Sleepy Hollow was once again a master stroke. Traditional Hammer style horror and Depp in the only role I actually really liked him in.
His vision for Nightmare Before Christmas was just a triumph and not even Corpse Bride came close to topping it.
Not a fan of Big Fish, too 'out there' for me. Not a fan of Edward Scissorhands either. Ed Wood was decent, but not sure if Burton directed that one or not come to think of it. huh.gif
I agree with what some people say though, that he isn't as stark and visionary nowadays as he used to be. He's gone off on a tangent, away from somewhat mainstream style films. That's his choice, but Tim, give us another gem like BATMAN or Sleepy Hollow soon, eh? biggrin.gif

I do like Tim Burton. Edward Scissorhands was, and still is, one of my all-time favourites. I know his style remains similar throughout his movies, but that's what I like about them - that familiar style.

personally i'm a big fan of all of tim's stuff.

i got to meet him once when he was in town advertising "the corpse bride", a movie i didn't care for in the slightest but of course i didn't tell him that. i used tact and wit to divert his question, when he asked "what did you think of the movie" i said "i absolutely loved it, it was the finest film i've seen in years!" of course in my reply i was referring to a different movie altogether than the one he was asking about, but what doesn't kill us only makes us stronger tongue.gif

of course i feel that tim burton's remake of "planet of the apes" is absolutely inferior in every way to the original and really hold a serious grudge against tim for ever making it, it's a disgusting film that won't stand up to the tests of time and a vile blight on mr burton's records.

I like his movie in the 80s and 90s

but all the movies he's done in the past 7 years just disapoint me.

It could be that i was a really big fan of him when no one else was an now every one is i dont want to be now.

I do like his films. I agree that Nightmare Before Christmas was good. I also liked Edward Scissorhands, Corpse Bride, and Beetlejuice.

Tim Burton is the man, i love all the movies that he are affiliated with. The nightmare before christmas remains one of my all time favorite movies and other classics such as Edward scissor hands and corpse bride were touching and made me laugh at the same time. Another favorite Burton project of mine is a short called "Vincent" you guys should look it up, you would love it.

Defintely a fan of Tim Burton. Batman was freakin' awesome. Not to mention Big Fish, Mars Attacks! and Pee-Wee's Big Adventure back in '85.
The Mighty Celestial
5. Beeteljuice - Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

4. Batman - Just for the fact that it was the first serious effort outside of the comicbook to try & depict ol' Bat's as a true Dark Knight of justice.

3. Ed Wood - A great movie about the worst movie ever.

2. Sleepy Hollow - A cool story story, combined with Burton's "avante gardeness", Johnny Depp's usual distinctive approach to the role & a great cast of "other" characters .

1. Nightmare Before Christmas - Tim Burton's best film, by far. Such a great cast of characters. Innocent enough for kids who can still see the world thru bushy-tailed bright-eyed glasses, yet twistedly dark enough to keep the interests of those of us adults who've had that part of our spirits crushed a long time ago.
A holiday movie for all ages on either side of the perspective spectrum.

Big fish is probably my favorite Tim Burton movie. It's my go to movie when I need something nice and moderately happy.
superjoe89
yeah i think he is a pretty good director. he definitely makes some really good movies that families can watch together like Beetlejuice, Nightmare before Christmas, and Batman

Nightmare Before Christmas is my favourite Tim Burton movie. Probably because I was a kid when it came out and it really made me look at Christmas movies differently. He's got a very unique imagination!

Batman was a classic too.

I forgot about Mars Attacks. That's one of my favourite movies ever. tongue.gif

"Don't run! We are your friends!" Classic. laugh.gif

And the Martians' fatal weakness of the old lady's music was just gold.

That came out, what, 10, 15 years ago? I don't think that's going to ruin the movie for anyone... laugh.gif

LOL Funnily enough I was talking about that today. I was trying to remember if I still had it. I bought it on video when it first came out, n one of those fat-assed double video cases. There was only one tape inside, but the extra room was for a T-shirt, which vanished almost immediately afterwards.

A t-shirt with a movie? Awesome. Although, that raises an important question: Did they come in different sizes, or did they just have a "no fatties" label?

LOL I don't remember. laugh.gif They probably had some indication of size. But yeah, you never get t-shirts as free gifts any more. Pity - saves my buying them.

Maybe that's what we need. Free t-shirt with membership. It could be their choice of an HST cartoon or "artistic" pictures of yours truly.
