Sweetness
Was that a scary movie or what? I still get shivers when I think of him with that head gear on him as he sucks air in with a slurping noise.

I think that and the sequals were some of the scariest stuff ever filmed. I read the book prior to seeing the movie and man just reading the book was scaring the daylights out of me.

However, having read the book I think made the movie that much more scary because I could recall what he actually did to the victims even when they didn't show alll of the things he did. The madness of the man actually was fantastic acting on his part. I can't watch him in other stuff now without thinking of his part in Silence of the Lambs.

Yeah, it's a great film. I think Buffalo Bill was creepier than Lecter though, "put the lotion in the basket".

yes I agree it was spooky. And if ever i happen to catch an episode of Monk. Whenever I see the Captain all I can see in my head is him saying "It rubs the lotion on its skin" unsure.gif

I still haven't seen or read this and it's killing me. I'm a fool - from what I hear, it's really amazing.

The captain from Monk's in it? It's been so long since I saw Silence of the Lambs, I wouldn't remember that. I may have to watch it again now.

Yeah, he looks very different these days, so aside from the voice, it's easy to overlook it.

I love watching movies I haven't seen in a while and finding people in them who are famous now for different roles. The Money Pit was on the other night and there was Joe Mantegna. Then there was Prison Break's Paul Adelstein in Bedazzled!

yes Silence of the Lambs was a good film . I have to say though ( and I am not sure if I am prejusdice just because I saw it when it first came out and a couple of times after that) but I liked 'Manhunter with William Peterson in it much more than the 'Red Dragon' remake with ed norton ( eventhough I think ed norton is a good actor etc. It didn't grip me as much as the character of the detective in Manhunter ( having seen him now in CSI years and years later though its like watching that character coming from a different angle perhaps.

p.s that reminds me that was kinda funny the Frencha nd Sunders take off of silence of the lambs. I hear it has been on the net in the last year as well from their television specials.

I nominate it for one of the best scariest movies of all time!! I don’t’ think they have made any movies even close to it. Can anybody think of one?

haha, that line was hillarious. I don't think the movie was scary at all, and over-rated to say the least. The movie dragged on until after the 2nd half of the movie. Still a good movie none the less, 7/10.

yes it was a goody.I am not saying it was the scariest or creepiest thing ever made. ( i remember one of the ones that creeped me out when i was young was another Anthony Hopkins role in the movie 'Magic')

I think the trick with "silence of the lambs" is that when it was made there wasn't dozens of 'x-files like scully characters around" and it was a bit left of centre compared to what was being released. Also to the best of my knowledge with his improvisations and adjustments to make he "hannibal' character seems to be so effective that no one I have spoken to personally realises he is only on screen in that movie for just a tad over 16 Mins in the whole film and I can't think of another movie where such and impact has been made for such a short screen appearance. I think that is all part of it smile.gif another thing is (while I dont' mind Brian Cox playing lecer in Manhunter) I can't imagine how the chemistry would have been between Jodie Foster if the first 2 choices for the role had of gone ahead. I can kind of imagine John LIthgow would have done a good job but the first choise of Gene Hackman ( while i like him a lot as an actor) I can't see how the chemistry would have worked out in this particular film. Actaully if the first choosing of Michell Pffifer for Clarice happened I can't picture that at all oddly enough. Interesting to think about these choices though .
Actaully rading the books by John Douglas (profiler) who Jack Crawford was based upon makes me wonder how that man gets to sleep at night.

just thinking:
regarding it not being scary or impressive so much in peoples memories.

it reminds me of something that was said in an interview on tele re: sci - fi and effects etc that star wars ( while not being overly impressive at all to younger people now) was impressive at the time because the sound effects and camera work etc etc hadn't been all put into a picture like that. Nowdays they say we arae so used to seeing those effects on any normal episode of stargate or can't think of the name of the other ones like star treks and etc that when people see it now for the first time they think. What was the big deal about the trilogy"

In fact I was just thinking the other day while talking to someone that their 'ooooh in the cinema to star wars" for the next generation down seems to be 'Lord of the Rings" and for the other one generation its the Harry Potter thing so they can't see the big deal and I dare say in another 10 years something else will happen and one day their kids will watch their" Lord of the RIngs etc" and say that was a long and boring thing why are you so taken with it? it's funny I guess it's like that for every generation when something new or a bit different is done before it becomes a formula. unsure.gif unsure.gif unsure.gif unsure.gif

I am sad to admit it, but I have never seen it. It sounds good, but I don't know if I want to watch it if it's really gory. My stomach can't handle that any more

I thought the "mangina" was hilarious. When he tucks it between his legs. It's even funnier when Jay does it in clerks 2. Overall it was a pretty sick movie, and I mean sick in the disturbing, serial killer way.

Okay, I've seen this now, and Anthony Hopkins as Lecter has joined the ranks of the Legendary Movie Characters in my book. smile.gif

Excellent film, very creepy, great acting, although Michael Mann's Manhunter from 1985 is also fantastic. I feel that Hopkins was let down by the two later sequels.
