That movie definetley give you the shivers and chills..But that movie I still like to watch a least once a year...Still love it..It is a classic..
yes it was a goody.I am not saying it was the scariest or creepiest thing ever made. ( i remember one of the ones that creeped me out when i was young was another Anthony Hopkins role in the movie 'Magic')
I think the trick with "silence of the lambs" is that when it was made there wasn't dozens of 'x-files like scully characters around" and it was a bit left of centre compared to what was being released. Also to the best of my knowledge with his improvisations and adjustments to make he "hannibal' character seems to be so effective that no one I have spoken to personally realises he is only on screen in that movie for just a tad over 16 Mins in the whole film and I can't think of another movie where such and impact has been made for such a short screen appearance. I think that is all part of it

another thing is (while I dont' mind Brian Cox playing lecer in Manhunter) I can't imagine how the chemistry would have been between Jodie Foster if the first 2 choices for the role had of gone ahead. I can kind of imagine John LIthgow would have done a good job but the first choise of Gene Hackman ( while i like him a lot as an actor) I can't see how the chemistry would have worked out in this particular film. Actaully if the first choosing of Michell Pffifer for Clarice happened I can't picture that at all oddly enough. Interesting to think about these choices though .
Actaully rading the books by John Douglas (profiler) who Jack Crawford was based upon makes me wonder how that man gets to sleep at night.
just thinking:
regarding it not being scary or impressive so much in peoples memories.
it reminds me of something that was said in an interview on tele re: sci - fi and effects etc that star wars ( while not being overly impressive at all to younger people now) was impressive at the time because the sound effects and camera work etc etc hadn't been all put into a picture like that. Nowdays they say we arae so used to seeing those effects on any normal episode of stargate or can't think of the name of the other ones like star treks and etc that when people see it now for the first time they think. What was the big deal about the trilogy"
In fact I was just thinking the other day while talking to someone that their 'ooooh in the cinema to star wars" for the next generation down seems to be 'Lord of the Rings" and for the other one generation its the Harry Potter thing so they can't see the big deal and I dare say in another 10 years something else will happen and one day their kids will watch their" Lord of the RIngs etc" and say that was a long and boring thing why are you so taken with it? it's funny I guess it's like that for every generation when something new or a bit different is done before it becomes a formula.
