The longest movie I ever saw was "The color purple". I was so used to movies be like an hour and a half, maybe 2 hours at the most, but 4 hours!!! Yes it was a good movie, but when they are that long, you kind of lose interest. What was the longest movie you saw?

I have seen many long movies, i.e. Color Purple, StarWars, etc. but the one movie of all time that I thought was the longest, I'm not sure of the length but if it wasn't the longest it sure seemed that way while I was watching it.
It was called El Cid and I'm not sure how many people actually went to see it but it was an excellent movie it just seemed to go on for hours.
There was one other movie that I remember was advertised for 4 hours but that 4 hour movie flew by because of the action in it and I never really felt I was there longer than 2 hours and it was great. Wish I could remember the name of it. (If you haven't noticed I have a problem with remembering the names of movies, just the storyline and whether I enjoyed it or not.)

Well I'm not sure of the actual duration but Fargo and Capote seemed like the longest movies I ever saw. They were IMO the most boring films of all time. Overrated and pathetic. Both are in my worst 3 movies of all time despite being many people's favorites (at least in Fargo's case). I guess technically Lord of the Rings were probably the longest movies I ever saw. I loved them, but felt like I had aged when I walked out the theater.

I just remembered also Dances with wolves being really really long, but I was on a date so who's complaining

Can't say I saw much of the movie, but it seemed like we were in the theater for about 3 hours. Previews were also shorter in those days. Dang they've gotten out of hand these days.

I would say Titanic, it may have not been the actual longest film i have seen but certainly felt like it, i was cheering the iceberg on at the end. They could have cut out the middle and most of the end:P

Not the longest movie, yet its the longest running single shot that is unedited is from Russia. In fact the film "Russian Ark" is made up of a 90' steadicam shot.
Incredible !

I love The Stand. I am always so excited when I find it on TV. I keep meaning to buy the DVD, but I never have. I love Rose Red, The Shining, and Storm of the Century too.
In the theater it was Gone With the Wind and then Titanic three times.QUOTE(delino @ Jan 18 2007, 10:06 PM)

No, no, no! I love previews. They're sometimes the best part of the movie.
I love when I actually remember the movie I so wanted to see from the preview by the time it makes it to theaters.

Any of the Lord of the Rings movies. Granted there are good moments in the movies but I can't handle sitting there that long. Which version of the color purple were you watching? The copy I have is not even close to that long?

I once sat through the entire pride and prejudice miniseries, all in one showing. The official running time is 300 minutes, however, when it is playing in proximitey to testerone the interaction of the highly incompatable elements results in an immense chain reaction, causing a massive distortion in the ordinary flow of time, multiplying the length of the movie in proportion to the level of testosterone present.
By my calculations, that makes the length of the movie approximately 1,137.4 minutes. The things I do for women....

For me the longest movie I saw in a theater was The Titanic. I remember that vividly because I had to go to the bathroom and it took FOREVER for the movie to end. Ha Ha.

I 'd say the longest for me would have to be The Color Purple. I remember it being longer than it actually is though. Maybe because I was younger and everything seems longer when you are young. I just watched it again last week and it did not seem nearly as long as I thought it was.

I'm not sure of the actually running times but the two movies that seemed to take absolutely forever to watch were The Hurricane and The Titanic. Not that I dislike either of these, they just seemed to take a long time to finish.

Titanic was the longest movie I've ever seen, wasn't a big fan of it though. It was definately dragged out.
Lord of the Rings is really a long movie? I've never seen any of them yet, but I thought it was only 2 hrs long.

I agree that Titantic was the longest movie that I have ever seen. It could have been much shorter. However, I don't know the actual running time. Does anyone know how long it actually was?

Although over the years I have seen many a long film, as to which is the longest, pah, I don't know,
Van Helsing felt like one of the longest, but apparently its only just over 2 hours long, which is odd, because it felt like days had passed as IT JUST WOULDN'T END... *Sigh* ok, however, I tried to look up some long films to see if I could re-jigg my memory* a little, and well, this is what I found.
List of Long FilmsI love film, fact, I don't think anyone could argue that point, but I have my limits, 1620 minutes, now thats ass numbing.
*Early contender is
Seven Samurai at 206 minutes, but I'm sure I've seen longer, or, as stated above, some films just felt WAY too long.

Recently, David Lynch's Inland Empire was three mind-fudging hours. I haven't seen that many really long films, although I have got Once Upon a Time in America on DVD somewhere.
